Australia observed by GCOM-C (Global Change Observation Mission - Climate)
In Australia’s inland regions, the soil is rich in iron. When exposed to air and water, the iron oxidizes and forms iron oxide, which gives the surface its reddish appearance.
Australia’s iconic landmark, Uluru (ayersrock), owes its red appearance to the same process.
