The climate observation satellite "SHIKISAI" observed yellowsand.
Yellow sand originates from the taklamakandesert and gobidesert in Central Asia, roughly 5,000 km away from Japan. As snow melts in these regions, the ground dries out, creating the perfect conditions for a duststorm. In spring, strong winds lift dust and sand high into the atmosphere, carrying it eastward to Japan via the westerly winds.
