El Niño and La Niña Phenomena Observed by SHIKISAI Satellite.
These two phenomena refer to changes in Sea Surface Temperature (SST) that occur along the coast of South America and near the equator.
The images in this post show deviations from the average sea surface temperature, as observed by SHIKISAI.
The first image (December 2023) illustrates the El Niño phenomenon.
The second image (December 2021) shows the La Niña phenomenon.
You can see how areas with higher or lower temperatures form streak-like patterns extending from the South American continent.
